Inputs & outputs
Rate Hike has six inputs and three outputs. All jacks are 3.5mm Eurorack standard.
Inputs
Clock In
Accepts a steady clock signal — anything from a slow LFO pulse to fast 16th-note triggers will work. Used as the timing reference for Strict Duration and Strict Regularity.
If nothing is patched here, Rate Hike runs in free-time mode using internal timing only. The internal clock is set to 10 BPM.
Trigger In
Starts a sequence. Each rising edge here triggers one full burst sequence with the current parameter settings. Patch a clock divider, sequencer gate, or another module's gate output here.
CV Inputs (×4)
One CV input per knob — they're laid out next to their respective knobs:
- CV → Number of Bursts
- CV → Burst Duration
- CV → Regularity
- CV → Gate Length
If a CV input is patched, the knob acts as an attenuator for the CV input. Standard ±5V Eurorack range.
Sending an LFO to the Regularity CV input — with the knob at max — gives you bursts that sweep between front-loaded and back-loaded automatically. Slow LFO + fast clock = evolving, organic patterns.
Outputs
Trigger Out
Fires short fixed-length triggers — one for each burst in the sequence. Use this to trigger drum modules, percussion, or anything that needs a clean, fast pulse.
Gate Out
Fires gates with adjustable length — one gate per burst, with length set by the Gate Length knob (1–99% of the inter-burst time).
Use this to:
- Open envelopes (longer gates = longer envelope phases).
- Drive VCAs directly for sequences of different note lengths.
- Trigger sustaining synths that need a held gate.
Reset Out
Fires a single trigger at the start of every sequence. Use this to:
- Reset a sequencer so it always starts from step 1 when Rate Hike does.
- Sync a second envelope or LFO to the start of each burst sequence.
- Trigger a "downbeat" sound that lands at the start of every fill.
